Explanation basic principles of Human Design
Explanation of basic Human Design principles and concepts
The Bodygraph
The bodygraph consists of 9 centers, which are connected to each other through channels. The bodygraph describes your energy system, comparable to the 'traditional' Hindu Chakra system (which has 7 centers or chakras). We have evolved to a system of 9 centers with 36 channels connecting these centers and 64 gates or portals (based on the I Ching), and a dual system of 'Personality' (activated gates on the right side of the bodygraph) and 'Design' (activated gates on the left side of the bodygraph).
Example of a Bodygraph
The defined centers and gates are consistently present within yourself, while the undefined centers and gates are open to influence from the environment (other people and even the cosmos).
The design gates on the left side describe the gates that are activated in your unconscious part (the body or the vehicle), in the order of the different planets (from top to bottom: sun, earth, moon, north node, south node, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto). The personality gates on the right side describe the gates that are activated in your conscious part (your personality or the mind, which you have conscious access to ). The whole is like a dualistic system of characteristics: a part that you have conscious access to and a part that you don't have conscious access to, but which others can often observe in you.
The centers
The centers can be divided into the following categories:
Manifestation Center (1): the Throat. This is the central point of the bodygraph where everything comes together and energy can be manifested in the outside world. This center has 11 different gates and thus 11 different voices.
Pressure Centers (2): the Root and the Head Center (inspiration). These centers provide pressure and move the energy towards the three so-called awareness centers. It's the pressure to know (Head Center) and the pressure to do (Root Center). The Head Center asks questions and passes them on to the Ajna for conceptualization of the answer. The Root Center provides adrenaline, the pressure to move forward that ultimately leads to manifestation in the Throat.
Awareness Centers (3): these are the Spleen (intuition in the here and now), the Ajna (conceptual thinking), and the Solar Plexus (emotions). We can experience life in different ways in terms of consciousness: intuition, survival instinct in the here and now (our oldest consciousness center), cognitive awareness (intelligence of the brain), and emotional awareness/intelligence (relational and social awareness). This consciousness can express itself through the connections of these centers with the throat.
Motor Centers (4): there are 4 centers where life energy is available, namely the Root, the Solar Plexus, the Sacral, and the Heart Center. The Root (adrenaline) gives us energy to continue and keep moving. The Solar Plexus (emotional awareness) is also an energy center and gives us the energy of the desire to gain new experiences, energy for relationships and intimacy, and spiritual awareness. The Sacral (in the middle) is the energy for reproduction, sexuality, and creative life energy. The Heart Center provides the energy of individual willpower and is focused on the material. Identity Center (1): the G-Center determines the direction in your life and thus also your identity.
Energy types and signals of Alignment/Balance and Non Alignment/Out of Balance
There are 4 energy types, each with a specific kind of aura (energy field) and corresponding strategy and authority for making correct decisions for you. These 4 energy types are:
Generators (subdivided into 2 subtypes: the Manifesting Generator and the Generator), in total about 70% of the world population. These are the builders and doers of this world, and they are here to work and shape life. They are life itself because they have a defined Sacral Center, through which life energy flows.
- Aura: open and absorbing
- Strategy: wait to respond (feel inside what lights you up in response to your environment)
- In balance: satisfaction, peace
- Out of balance: frustration
- Aura: focused on the other, penetrating and absorbing the energy of the other
- Strategie: wait to be invited (your specfic qualities are recognised and consequently you will be invited)
- In balance: the experience of being succesfull
- Out of balance: feeling bitterness
The strategy of a projector is 'wait to be invited'. Waiting here also doesn't mean doing nothing, but simply living your life until your specific qualities are recognized.
Manifestors (less than 10% of the population).
Manifestors have the ability to establish something and initiate without having to respond to anything. To prevent resistance, it's important for them to inform others before they undertake something.
- Aura: closed and repelling
- Strategy: inform before initiating
- In balance: a sense of peace
- Out of balance: anger
Manifestors have the ability to establish something and initiate without having to respond to anything. To prevent resistance, it's important for them to inform others before they undertake something.
Reflectors (the rarest energy type, namely 1% of the population). They have no defined centers and absorb the energy of the environment.
- Aura: a sponge
- Strategy: wait out a moon cycle
- In balance surprise
- Out of balance: disappointment
For making important decisions, Reflectors need to take their time and need a full cycle of the moon. During this period, it is important to talk a lot with others to organize their thoughts and hear their own truth in the interaction. When in balance, they experience surprises, while disappointment can arise because they can perceive the imbalance in the world so strongly.
Authority
Your mind or head cannot make decisions that are good for you. Others (external authority) generally can't either. Your body consciousness knows what is good for YOU. There are 7 types of authority (Inner Authority), depending on your design, in hierarchical order:
Solar Plexus Authority
If the Solar Plexus Center is defined in a chart, this is immediately your authority (emotional). This field operates in a wave motion and has no truth in the here and now. It is therefore important to ride out the emotional wave and take time before making a decision. Clarity will come over time. The motto is - sleep on it for a night (or a few), be patient and take your time. Have multiple conversations and let it sink in. Clarity will emerge over time.
Sacral Authority
If the Sacral Center is defined and the Solar Plexus is not, there is Sacral Authority. The Sacral Center makes sounds and can answer in the here and now with 'uh-huh' (yes) or 'uhn-un' (no) and 'hmmmmm' in case of doubt. In the latter case, you should ask again later to a person with Sacral Authority. If you're very much in your mind, it can be difficult to hear the voice of the Sacral Authority. You can practice by having many 'yes-no' questions asked to you. The Sacral Authority indicates in the here and now where the Generator has energy available. Following this leads to satisfaction and minimal resistance.
Splenic Authority
If the Spleen Center is defined and the Sacral and Solar Plexus are not, there is Splenic Authority. This is our oldest consciousness in the here and now, it is our survival instinct. It speaks to us in the here and now with a whisper and is further experienced with a direct recognition or feeling of whether something is good for us or not. This can involve direction, relationships, possibilities, and people. It is very important to learn to listen to this carefully because this inner authority can easily be distracted by the mind or by emotions of others (after all, an open Solar Plexus amplifies the emotions of others in your energy field). The Splenic Authority speaks only once in the here and now, you cannot retrieve it again.
Heart Center (Ego) Manifested Authority
This is an authority for Manifestors. Their authority is the voice without being controlled by the mind. This involves the channel between the Heart Center and the Throat (channel 21-45). The Heart Center speaks through this channel the authority (voice) of the person who has this authority. The mind does not think this in advance. Your voice initiates and runs your life, your voice guides you. You must learn to trust your own voice.
Heart Center (Ego) Projected Authority
This is a rare authority of a projector defined by channel 25-51, the connection between the Heart Center and the G-Center (identity). This is about being recognized and invited. When this happens, it's important to listen to your Heart Center and see if you really want this. With this energy (channel 25-51), you can bring about an enormous transformation and be successful.
Self Projected Authority
As with the Heart Center (Ego) Manifested Authority, this is about listening to yourself. You need to have conversations with others about your decisions and choices so that you hear yourself talking. Ask yourself what gives you pleasure, what makes you happy, does this give self-expression, is this the right direction? In these conversations, you listen to yourself and hear yourself give the answer.
Environment (Mental Projectors)
This is an authority of Projectors with only empty fields under the Throat Center. In this case, you derive your authority from the environment. The first question is therefore whether you are in the right environment. If this is not the case, you will not be able to make the right choices. You experience the right environment with your body, does the environment feel healthy and nourishing for you? Then you are in the right environment. When you are in the right environment, you obtain the right guidance through the nourishment of your empty fields from that right environment.
Lunar Authority (Reflectors)
Reflectors don't have defined fields and will have to wait for the lunar cycle to make important decisions. Reflectors are a very special type and need to take it easy and should avoid being rushed. It is also important that they are in the right environment (see also the explanation for Mental Projectors). It also helps Reflectors to have conversations with others (see also the explanation for Self Projected Authority) and to listen to themselves. Eventually, they will develop a deep inner knowing in this way.
Profiles
A Profile is defined by two numbers: the number after the personality Sun/Earth (conscious) and the number after the design Sun/Earth (unconscious). There are a total of 12 combinations, and these combinations represent 12 different roles that you can encounter. These 12 different roles can be further specified by energy type (so 12 different Profiles for a Generator, 12 different Profiles for a Projector, and so on), but for simplicity, we'll stick to a general description here. Your Profile quickly gives you insight into activities or occupations that you naturally do in general terms (and can of course be applied in many areas).
The 6 Profile Lines are:
- The Investigator: chameleon, truth, creativity, inner strength, introspection, foundation, empathy, curiosity, driven to resolve uncertainty.
- The Hermit: solitude, ability to judge, humility, innocence, waiting, magnetic, harmony, withdrawn in own space.
- The Martyr: adaptability, learning from experience/mistakes, experimenting, pioneering, resilient, anarchistic, mutating, journey of discovery, sympathetic.
- The Opportunist: focus on relationships, making friends, investing, fame, community, reciprocity, opportune, connecting.
- The Heretic: mysterious, seductive, paranoia, practical solutions, present, powerful, wise, projecting energy (creates expectations).
- The Role Model: trial and error, perfectionism, leadership, maturity, visibility, embodiment, optimism, observer, perspective.
