Human Design and stress and burn-out

Human Design provides insight into how energy works specifically for you and how you can manage it in relation to stress and burnout. Stress and burnout are indicators that you are not in balance, not on the right path, or not in alignment. Read the general explanation in the Blog section of the website (What is Human Design, Explanation of Human Design basic principles), request your personal Human Design chart, and look at the following aspects.

Energy Type

Generators and Manifesting Generators have a defined Sacral Center, giving them consistent access to life energy. They are designed to work and go to bed 'exhausted' in the evening. It's important for (Manifesting) Generators to do work they love. Strategy & Authority are crucial here (for choosing the right work). Your Profile (roles) that you naturally like to fulfill also provides insight into the type of activities you enjoy (see the Blog post 'Explanation of Human Design Basic Principles' for more details). If you do work you don't like or that doesn't suit you (your natural roles), you won't feel comfortable as a (Manifesting) Generator.

Manifestors, Projectors, and Reflectors don't have a defined Sacral Center and thus don't have consistent access to life energy. They can receive energy from (Manifesting) Generators in their energy field, but it's borrowed energy. When alone later, they no longer have this energy and may feel very tired and need rest. Our society is structured around a full-time workweek of 36 to 40 hours (or more), which doesn't necessarily suit these 3 energy types well, as they don't have consistent access to life energy. This could lead to stress, fatigue, and burnout symptoms in the long run. These 3 energy types are not doers like the (Manifesting) Generator but are more suited for the following roles:

  • Manifestor: initiate and set up something, then guide the execution by (Manifesting) Generators.
  • Projector: guide and leader for the work that (Manifesting) Generators do.
  • Reflector: mirror for the environment, evaluate (can sense and reflect the environment/others very well because all fields are open).

Finally, the defined gates in the planet Mars can provide insight into the area of work/activity (both unconscious and conscious) and thus indicate activities/characteristics that you naturally like to perform.

Root Center Defined or Undefined

In the E-book 'The Clue', you can take a self-test based on your undefined fields in your bodygraph to gain insight into where you might not be 'in alignment'.

The Root Center in the bodygraph is a so-called pressure center (stress, adrenaline). People with a defined Root Center can (unconsciously) put pressure on people with an undefined Root Center. People with an undefined Root Center may, in order to get rid of the pressure, handle tasks they've taken on as quickly as possible (sometimes at the expense of quality). A pitfall can also be that they get more work on their plate because they do the work so quickly. If you recognize this in yourself, the solution is to take it easy and perform the tasks one by one at a calm pace and carefully.

Heart Center Defined or Undefined

Your Heart Center in the Bodygraph represents willpower. About 30% of people have this defined and are thus able to make commitments and promises. If you have an undefined Heart Center (which is quite common!) and are out of balance, you can recognize this by the following:

  • Feeling the need to prove yourself and your value.
  • Promising things you can't deliver.
  • Experiencing pressure to make commitments/promises.
  • Experiencing pressure to show loyalty and/or courage.
  • The need to be 'in control'.

People with an undefined Heart Center can experience stress as a result of, for example, the urge to prove themselves, not keeping promises, and taking on too much.
